The Power of Blessing at the Family Altar
Genesis 24:60 “And they blessed Rebekah, and said unto her, Thou art our sister, be thou the mother of thousands of millions, and let thy seed possess the gate of those which hate them.”
The family altar is more than a place of prayer, it is a place of destiny. When Rebekah was blessed, those words spoken over her life shaped generations. From her lineage came Jacob, Judah, David, and ultimately Christ, who fulfilled the promise by possessing “the gates of hell” (Matthew 16:18).
Blessings spoken at the altar are not empty words; they carry prophetic weight. Proverbs 18:21 reminds us: “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” When families gather to pray and declare God’s Word, they are not just speaking encouragement they are shaping futures.
Consider Abraham, who built altars wherever he went (Genesis 12:7–8). His obedience and worship established a covenant that still speaks today. In contrast, Lot neglected the altar, and his family’s legacy was marked by compromise (Genesis 19:26). The difference was the altar.
At your family altar, speak blessings over your children, your marriage, and your household. Declare promises like Psalm 112:2: “His seed shall be mighty upon earth: the generation of the upright shall be blessed.” These declarations, mixed with faith, set the course for generations yet unborn.
Please Pray With Me:
Heavenly Father, thank You for the power of blessing at the family altar. May our words be filled with life, shaping our children, our marriages, and our future according to Your promises. Let our household be mighty upon the earth, and may we possess the gates of the enemy through Christ Jesus. Amen.
